DISC and relationships: prepare a useful conversation

Start with one concrete event. Separate what you observed from your interpretation and needs. Use DISC as language for preferences, then ask your partner whether the description fits their experience.

Prepare a conversation

Turn one specific situation into a calm opening, an open question and a proposal you can discuss together.

This is an original conversation exercise. It does not diagnose a partner or calculate relationship compatibility from DISC or colours.

  1. Describe one observable moment: what was said or done, without assigning a personality label.

  2. Separate your interpretation from the event. Write down what you need and where your boundary is.

  3. Ask a question that leaves room for the other person's answer. Summarise their response and check your understanding.

  4. Propose a small mutual agreement and a review time. If needed, agree how to pause and when to resume the conversation.

Make it specific

Complete the five fields. If you do not know something yet, write the question you want to investigate. Leave out names and confidential information.

Write only what you could see or hear. Choose one moment.

Frequently asked questions

Can DISC identify the cause of our relationship problems?

No. A profile cannot establish motives, blame, safety or partner compatibility. The worksheet prepares questions. Time, agreements, pressures and circumstances also matter; control or violence is not a color difference.
